  1. So did you enjoy it? The bit I heard was really interesting, but not exactly what I'd put on to do the ironing, if you get my drift... I'd be interested in knowing the technical side of it; what works, what doesn't, and if it's possible to build some sort of software analysis on music to determine whether it's potentially "CI friendly". Just thinking out loud... Or do you depend on the CI software to be improved.

  2. Definitely had a good night - I enjoyed some pieces more than others. The last two were my favourite! Every piece was interesting in its own way - agree that it's not the sort of music I'd listen to for pleasure. The lecture took an interesting look at the technical side - a lot of CI recipients can't distinguish pitch very well, with some reporting that every seven notes on the piano sound identical. Ouch. So melody can be a problem. Timbre is also an issue - in the first piece of the night, for example, I spent the majority of it trying to distinguish the difference between the violin and the cello. I think the BEI will be able to draw some really interesting conclusions from the surveys and the focus groups. Hopefully that leads them down a path for improving the CI software itself. :-)
